Sebanyak 31 karateka yang akan mengikuti pelatnas mengikuti tes
fisik oleh pelatih fisik asal Australia Gregory J. Wilson, di ruang
fitnes Gelora Bung Karno Senayan, Kamis (18/10/2012).
Tes fisik ini digelar Pengurus Besar Federasi Olahraga Karate-Do Indonesia (PB FORKI) untuk mengukur kekuatan fisik para karateka, sehingga mereka lebih siap saat tampil di kejuaraan internasional.
"Ada lima hal yang diujikan pada tes fisik tersebut, strength, fleksibility, speed, endurance, dan power," tutur Kabid Binpres Forki Djafar E. Djantang, Kamis (18/10/2012).
Menurut Djafar, kegiatan ini merupakan tahap awal untuk mengetahui kekuatan fisik para karateka sejak mereka menjalani pelatnas karate tahap kedua sejak 1 Oktober lalu.
Berkaitan dengan kejuaraan dunia karate WKF di Paris, para karateka Indonesia memang harus mempersiapkan diri secara maksimal.
"Sebab persaingan di ajang ini sangat berbeda dengan kejuaraan multievent SEA Games. Mereka harus benar-benar mempersiapkan fisik dan mental demi merebut gelar juara dunia," ujarnya.
Djafar E. Djantang menambahkan, jadi, tes-tes fisik ini memang sangat berguna bagi untuk melakukan pemantauan terhadap perkembangan fisik atlet.
"Tes hari ini akan segera dievaluasi. Mudah-mudahan saja hasilnya menggembirakan. Apalagi, para karateka yang tergabung di pelatnas kali ini sebagian adalah karateka yang sudah menjalani pelatnas sejak 1 April lalu,” katanya.
